Crushin' on some COLOR

So the white death was predicted for the Midwest last night, and I don't know how much the Chicago area got, but Cincinnati had a few flurries and that was the end of the story!  I am not a big fan of winter, and although I think snow looks pretty, I'd rather live in a warm climate; that being said, this frigid weather has me yearning for high 70's warmer temps and some COLOR!  I am ready to say goodbye to drab winter and welcome the warmer months with open arms (and hopefully a full wallet so that I can buy this entire look!)

Feeling like you need to spice it up a bit for the new year?  Want to take your drab office looks up a notch?  Consider some "unconventional" suiting options - like a sleeveless blazer, for instance.  It's still dressy, but much more interesting than the typical suit jacket.  Also, women's blouses are so beautiful and feminine lately, why cover the entire thing up with a standard jacket blazer? 

I also threw in a pair of sparkly heels, which may not be practical now, but buy on sale and enjoy a few months from now - can't hurt, right?  The patchwork sandals add a bit of shimmer to an otherwise solid colored outfit.  Do something fancy with your nails to add another layer to your look.  Finish the look off with a bold necklace and a clutch - another colored necklace or clutch could work here - perhaps a teal to go with the bold magenta purple of the shirt.  BE ADVENTUROUS in 2012!

Guys, can you believe it is NOVEMBER?  I really cannot... seems just yesterday I was soaking up the sun on a warm July day.  It's going to start snowing soon and I will probably cry.  I think I get a bit seasonally depressed.... but you know what turns that frown upside-down? The HOLIDAYS!  I love Christmas so much.  Everything about it makes me smile - the music, showering other people with gifts, the cookies, spending time with family, the parties.... DRESSING for the parties!!!!!  So let's get down to business.  You'll probably have some holiday parties to attend, so I can help you crack the riddle of what to wear.
 

First step, pick out a fun dress, preferably one that can be worn outside of the holiday season.  This Zara green dress could be worn throughout the year, but is also perfectly jazzed up for a holiday look.  Since you'd most likely be cool without anything covering your arms or shoulders, this faux fur shawl is glamorous and rich looking - perfect for dressing up a look.  Lastly, add some glitzy accessories to top off and dress up the look just a bit more.  Follow these three steps and you'll easily put together a seasonably-appropriate party look!

This week I am trying to cure your workplace woes with some stylish clothing that is also office appropriate.  Similar to yesterday, there is another pop of color in this outfit, which helps keep your workplace attire from feeling drab and boring. The green blouse can also transition into weekend wear with a pair of flares or skinny jeans.  I posted a link to the Herringbone Pants earlier last week and tried them on on Saturday.  They are gorgeous in person and PERFECT for Fall.  I have a J.Crew gift card coming my way and those babies will be my first purchase!

The red and tan shoe just helps add another layer of color to this look but doesn't stand out too much against the neutral herringbone pant.  Keep the remainder of your accessories neutral to balance out the look.  I purchased the chevron necklace above last week and am OBSESSED with it.  It instantly dresses up any blouse!

Professional clothing can be tricky, can't it?  You want to look appropriate in order to receive the respect that you deserve, but you want to be able to express yourself and your sense of style at the same time.  The best way to strike that good balance is to build a wardrobe full of classic pieces, then throw in a few "fun" pieces to the outfit.

The bright pants serve as a super fun piece, but the pants are very well tailored and professional, so they don't give an inappropriate vibe.  The striped top is classic but still more interesting than a plain blouse, and the shoes are a stunning neutral black, with a little extra detail. Dressing for work doesn't have to be boring, just make sure you are striking a balance with your fun versus classic mix!
