I created today's Thrifty Thursday post with a little help from our friends down south.  I was inspired by the gorgeous scarf below from (gasp!) Old Navy.  There are a bunch of gorgeous, rich tones in the scarf, so I pulled a few of them out into other layers of the look (deep blue of the dress, rust into the tights, and a borderline obnoxious dose of yellow for the nails) to create depth and interest.  You can get this whole look for under $150!!!  Can you even believe that?

Sorry for the radio silence, my dears.  I was too busy enjoying the lovely holiday and stuffing my cheeks full of turkey and apple crisp to think about outfits :)

This past weekend, I realized I've been wearing the same outfit lately in a variety of different ways.  It consists of the following items:

I've got the market cornered on striped shirts, so it's possible I could wear this outfit for the rest of Fall and Winter, but I digress.  Here's how you can create my favorite "go-to" look for this time of year!

Weekend Wear 10.24.2011

It was a gorgeous weekend here in Cincinnati.  Cool temps in the morning (perfect for a big cup of coffee), then warmed up to the mid 60's with abundant sunshine for the afternoon.   I had a few errands on the agenda for Saturday afternoon including test driving a car, shopping for some living room accessories, and picking up some things to get our house organized.  I wanted to be comfortable but still look put together (although I was really tempted to leave my Lululemon WunderUnder crops on....) so I consulted my closet and the creative juices started flowing.

I usually start with the top as the foundation of my outfit, and on Saturday, the first thing that popped out to me was the black gingham shirt from J. Crew factory outlet.  I considered putting a sweater over top of the shirt, but thought I might get warm, so I opted for the vest instead.  I didn't want to look bulky so I chose a thick camel colored leather belt to cinch my waist and give me some shape, despite the layers I was wearing.  I paired the tops with some Gap jeggings (cuffed a few times at the ankle to give a more casual feel) and black woven flats.  For accessories, I used my black Bottega Veneta woven purse (the Deux Lux one below is almost an exact replica at a seriously small fraction of the price), a leather bracelet, and a gold watch.

First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!  It's my dear mother's birthday so I have to show some love.  That aside, I wanted to show you guys what I wore this weekend.  I spent the majority of Saturday in the car (with a few stops to test drive a car and for Jeni's ice cream) and needed to be comfortable, but still wanted to look cute.  With my road trip post fresh in my mind, I put together a casual and comfortable look.  Here's what I wore, and I hope you enjoy a glimpse into my wardrobe:

Friday's Fancies - 10.07.2011

Since we're at the onset of Fall, blazers are a very pertinent item of clothing.  They are perfect for days where the temperature is fluctuating because they're easy to layer and take off or put on when the temperature dictates.  This week, I've featured mostly casual looks, so I decided to dress things up today to give you some inspiration for your weekend.  If it's already cool where you are, throw in a pair of black tights with this look to warm your legs, but this would also look perfect with bare legs!  Today marks the first Friday that I am linking up to {AV} of Long Distance Loving's Friday's Fancies!  This week the subject matter of choice was blazers!

Thrifty Thursday: 10.06.2011

My lovelies, here is a southwestern, earth-toned look for your Thursday.  I am really liking this color palate right now, as the grey and brown hues are really perfect for the early transition into fall.  I admit, I included the dark, flared jeans in a recent post... and I don't like to repeat.... but they are such a steal and perfectly on-trend right now, so I am going to cram the idea into your brains until you take my advice and go to Old Navy and buy a pair :)

I've never been camping, but if I ever do go camping, I want to wear this look.

I kid, I kid.  If I were wearing this to camp, camping would probably involve a rolled ankle and a few chipped nails, so actually, I'd really just like to wear this ANY day.... other than when I am camping, of course, because that would just be silly and impractical  :)

This week I am trying to cure your workplace woes with some stylish clothing that is also office appropriate.  Similar to yesterday, there is another pop of color in this outfit, which helps keep your workplace attire from feeling drab and boring. The green blouse can also transition into weekend wear with a pair of flares or skinny jeans.  I posted a link to the Herringbone Pants earlier last week and tried them on on Saturday.  They are gorgeous in person and PERFECT for Fall.  I have a J.Crew gift card coming my way and those babies will be my first purchase!

The red and tan shoe just helps add another layer of color to this look but doesn't stand out too much against the neutral herringbone pant.  Keep the remainder of your accessories neutral to balance out the look.  I purchased the chevron necklace above last week and am OBSESSED with it.  It instantly dresses up any blouse!

I have been lusting over faux fur vests lately, and think I've finally found one worthy of my $100-$150 price range.  It's hard to find faux fur that doesn't look too cheap or fake, but I think the one featured below looks full rather than stiff and flat, and it has realistic looking color to it.  The blouse is from Old Navy - I just purchased it on Friday and it is DEFINITELY worth the $30 price tag.  It's a gorgeous poppy color and the fabric is perfectly flowy for the oversized nature of the blouse. 

I would add a little interest to this outfit by pairing these gorgeous TARGET (!!) leather boots with a bit more glam Madewell clutch, while rounding out the look with a neutral nail polish and simple bracelet.
