Simple & Chic

Sometimes I just really don't have the energy to get all dolled up.  I want to wear something loose, drapey, and most of all, comfortable.  Skinny jeans with a little bit of stretch, a loose fitting tee, and some cool jewelry make an outfit that looks like you put a lot more effort into it than you did... and what could be better than that?

Thrifty Thursday: Maxi dress

For today's edition of Thrifty Thursday, I put together a comfortable look for a warm summer evening.... for a total of only $97!

Maxi dresses are such a perfect summer staple, and luckily, they look good on almost everyone, regardless of size or age.  Pick up a simple black maxi dress like the one below from ASOS and it will carry you through summer for a cool $29.

Neutrals

If you've been following my blog for a while, you know that I tend to lean toward neutral colors when putting outfits together, as neutrals tend to be timeless and can also be appropriate for a variety of ages.  Today's outfit follows the same pattern - crisp, clean lines in a neutral color palate with a bit of fun in the necklace and nail polish.  All of the pieces in this look are easily transitioned to other outfits and for other occasions in your wadrobe, so this look won't be a one-hit wonder.

Easy Breezy

I found a clutch the other day that I was immediately drawn to in that "I gotta have this right now before someone else snatches it up" kind of way.  The Large Pony Leather clutch below is made by Kelsea Slade of K.Slademade.  She creates clutches and jewelry, and her goods are quite reasonably priced and gorgeous (especially for being handmade). So.... I broke down and ordered it, then decided to build an outfit inspired by the clutch.

Most of all, I love the rich orangey tone of the supple leather, so I started with a bright and breezy orange silk tank from Anthropologie (on sale right now!).  You may not be able to tell from the inspiration board below, but the clutch has navy fabric detail around the zipper, and I pulled that through to the outfit in the skirt from TopShop.  Taking a cue from the nude waistband of the skirt, I added some equally neutral and simple wedge sandals, a summery straw hat, and a few shimmery pieces of jewelry.

This seems like the perfect outfit for the warm days ahead of me in Portugal, what do you think?

Steal Her Style

It's time, once again, for a Sartorialist-inspired segment of Steal Her Style.

This photo was featured on the Sartorialist blog last week and it caught my eye because it is so simple, but looks really put-together.   Another added bonus is that all of the pieces can be very easily transitioned into other outfits; the neutral skirt could be worn for work, and the white tank is a very versatile basic that can be layered into many outfits.

The shoes are definitely not something I could normally pick, as I've never been really crazy about mule-style shoes, but they really work in this outfit.  If you're not sold on them, another pair of dark platform sandals would work well, too.

Pull your hair up into a messy bun, and make sure to tie the tank into a simple knot (and relish in the 90's inspiration for a moment... possibly while humming NKOTB song to yourself?) and you'll easily replicate this simple, comfortable look.
